Ranks are permanent and tied to the account UUID. You can't gift them between accounts. Once you've bought MVP+ on an account, that's the rank forever (and you can also upgrade up from a lower rank later, paying the price difference).

VIP - the baseline upgrade

What you get:

• Yellow chat colour (the visible status symbol).
• Join full lobbies. Big one - during peak hours, default lobbies fill, and only ranks can override.
• Lobby flight with /fly. Free movement in lobbies.
• /nick for an in-game nickname.
• A handful of basic cosmetics (pets, mystery box rewards, gadgets).

VIP is the entry point. It's enough to remove the most annoying free-player limitations (full lobbies, no flight). For casual players who just want a smoother experience, VIP at $7.99 is fine.

VIP+ - the small upgrade

VIP+ adds, on top of VIP:

• Green chat colour (the brighter, more visible one).
• +50% lobby cosmetic discounts.
• A wider gadget set and a couple of exclusive lobby pets.
• More mystery box rewards.

Honest opinion: VIP+ is the worst-value rank if you're paying Hypixel directly. The jump from VIP ($7.99) to VIP+ ($14.99) is +$7 for what's mostly cosmetic. Skip it and save the difference toward MVP if you actually use Hypixel a lot.

MVP - the meaningful upgrade

MVP is where the rank starts feeling worthwhile:

• Gold chat colour with bold formatting.
• The famous MVP star in chat. Visible flex.
• Animated emotes (the rank that introduced them - significantly more reactions, on demand).
• Custom join messages.
• Friend join notifications (huge for coordinating).
• Particle pet effects.
• Wider cosmetic library, exclusive prefixes, more mystery box pulls.

For active Hypixel players, MVP is the sweet spot. The animated emotes and join customisation are actually used daily, and the gold star is the recognisable status marker.

MVP+ - the top permanent rank

MVP+ stacks on MVP with:

• Exclusive cages in BedWars (visual change to your bed area).
• More animated emotes and exclusive particle types.
• Custom particle pet trails.
• Premium parkour cosmetics.
• The deepest unlock chest contents.

If you stream, content-create, or just like having the best cosmetics, MVP+ is the move. For pure gameplay it's equivalent to MVP - every functional perk caps at MVP.

Here's the math nobody mentions on the Hypixel store. If you buy an MVP rank from Hypixel, you pay $26.99 and you also need a Java account (≈$30 from Microsoft directly) to attach it to. That's $57 minimum.

Can I transfer my rank to another account? No. Ranks are bound to UUID forever. Hypixel does not allow transfers.

Do ranks expire? No. They're one-time purchases (except MVP++, which is monthly).

If I buy VIP now, can I upgrade to MVP later? Yes. You pay the difference between what you've spent and the new rank. So VIP → MVP is $26.99 minus $7.99 = $19.

Do pre-ranked alts get banned at higher rates? No. Once the account is in your Microsoft profile, it looks the same as one you registered yourself. Ban rates depend entirely on how you play it, not how it was acquired.

Will the rank survive a transfer between Microsoft accounts? Yes. The rank is tied to the Mojang/Microsoft UUID, which travels with the account no matter who owns the wrapping Microsoft profile.
